Fighting For Equality Since 1979!

The National Organization for Women is recognized as a leader in women's fight for political justice. Tompkins County NOW was founded in 1979 committed to passage of the ERA. Women are still not in the US Constitution, but Tompkins County NOW is still here. We are dedicated to having an impact on policies and attitudes that are harmful to women. We have joined NOW to do the work of changing our society at the political level, working to counter problems at the source in order to prevent sexism which causes women to be limited to accomplishments below their abilities. We fight the sexualization of women, which causes women to be regarded as objects to be used and abused. Tompkins County NOW's's goals are to educate, organize, and make positive change for women.

NOW supports real health care reform, that will ensure health care for all. It cannot be used as a backdoor to take away reproductive healthcare choices from women. The bill that passed the House contained a Stupak-Pitts amendment. It not only prohibits abortion coerage in the public option plan, but in private insurance company plans. It is an insideous attack on choice. Please print out this petition, get signatures and return the petition to Tompkins County NOW at 124 Old Peruville Rd, Groton, NY 13073. National NOW has more information on Stupak-Pitts.

Our chapter hosts a Feminist Thursday on the fourth Thursday of every month at 5:30 pm at a local restaurant. Join our listserve for updates.
